The present day Czech land was under Habsburg rule from 1526, later becoming part of the Austrian Empire and Austria-Hungary. After World War I, Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed and the Republic of Czechoslovakia was formed in 1918. The Czechoslovakia split into two separate nations; the Czech and the Slovakia on January 1, 1993 and thus the Czech Republic was formed.
The population living in Czech Republic is Czechs (94.2 %, out of these 3.7% Moravian and o.1% Silesian according to 2001 Census), Slovaks (1.9%), Germans (0.4%) and rest Roma People. The Czech Republic is a non-religious country, approximately half of the population living in Czech Republic does not believe in God.
The Czech republic offers you temperate climate with hot summers and cold winters accompanied with snow. Rainfall occurs mainly in summer months. Since there is no access to sea and hence area experiences major differences in temperature between summer and winter months. The coldest months in Czech Republic are January, February and December. The warmest month of the year is July, followed by August and June. Summer months are accompanied by rain and thunderstorm. September is start of autumn season, which lasts till November.
The President of Czech Republic is head of the state. The President appoints Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, nominates Court judges for Senates' approval and dissolve the parliament if required. The government in Czech Republic is multi party parliamentary democracy. The Prime Minister is head of the government.
The economy of Czech Republic has suffered recession in the past, however its' been recovering since mid 1999. The export made to Germany and European Union and foreign investments accompanied with rising domestic demands boost Czech economy significantly in the year 2000 - 2001. The Czech government is striving to deduce the fiscal deficit, which has risen to 4% from previous 3.3 % in 2007. The government is also planning to strengthen telecommunication and banking services and privatizing enterprises.
The Czech government receives significant amount of GDP from tourism. The Czech capital Prague is one of the major centers of tourist activities. The country is also famous for its love of puppetry and marionettes. The Pilsner style beer originated in Western Bohemian city of Plzeň. On Human Development Index the Czech Republic has ranked 30th among 177 countries.
